Janmashtmi

Lord Krishna was the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He is considered as the most complete form of Lord Vishnu. Eighth son of Devaki and Vasudev, the lord took birth in a prison in Mathura where his parents were imprisoned. The story goes…
Devaki was the sister of Kansa for whom she was adorable. On the marriage procession day Kansa was happy to ride the chariot himself followed by Mathurites taking his brother-in-law Vasudev and sister Devaki to their abode.  And during this joyous occasion , suddenly the Akashwani (heavenly voice) thundered….."Oh Kansa, you are so merrily riding the chariot of your sister on her  way to her new married life but remember, her very own son is going to be the reason for your Kaal(death)!"
As soon as he heard this, kamsa devoid of all his brotherly feelings, sprang up to kill his helpless sister. Vasudeva therefore had to interfere to protect his newly  married bride, he requested Kamsa,”Oh  Kamsa, Devaki, my beloved wife is just a woman and moreover your sister. Please do not kill her ”.But Kamsa was adamant.Vasudeva then assured him that he would hand over his every progeny to him as soon as it takes birth. Kamsa then finally agreed upon not killing Devaki.
Kamsa then forced the way of the couple to the prison. Kamsa began the massacre. He killed about 6 newly born babies ruthlessly. The seventh  son of Devaki was Balarama. By the strength of Lord Vishnu’s unending potency Balarama was transferred to Rohini’s womb from which Balarama took birth. And after this, as the eighth son of Devaki  Lord Krishna the charming incarnation of Lord Vishnu landed on the earth to protect the universe from the wrong doings of evil men.
Lord Krishna’s birth occurred on Shravan, asthmi ,Wednesday midnight on the Rohini nakshatra. The lord was four handed(chaturbhuj) when he was born as a baby. His parents started praying the Lord to show them his normal humanly form and the kind Lord agreed.
Kamsa was already eager to put to end the reason of his death. The happy couple were now worried for they wanted to save their son from the possible danger of Kamsa. After pondering over it for long, it was decided that the newly born darling of the fortunate parents be shifted to Gokula.
And what a miracle, the doors of the prison opened automatically paving the way of the beautiful lord to a safe destination. The ignorant slaves of Kamsa were put to sleep when Vasudeva began carrying his son. On his way, he had to get cross the Yamuna river. The Yamuna river out of love for the little form of her lord eased his way to the safe land. Lord Shesha happily obliged to cover his little God from rains.
In Gokula  Nandgopa was a friend of Vasudeva. Nandgopa’s pregnant wife had given birth to a girl baby. Yashoda was asleep then. Vasudeva picked up the girl baby and replaced it with his  baby son. This girl child was none other than Yogmaya. Vasudeva carried her back to Mathura. There was then the outcry of Devaki as if she had given birth to a baby. Cruel Kamsa was already awake and ran in with his sword for killing the new born.  Devaki out of frustration shouted out to Kamsa,” Brother, this baby is a girl, she would,nt harm you , leave her alone please!”.But Kamsa was blinded with anger and fear.He picked the baby and as he was trying to pound the baby hard to the stone, the baby escaped from his hand and the Yogmaya thundered ,” Your destructor has taken birth and is already started his life with menance.
On being informed like this, Kamsa was shocked. He decided to kill all the newly born babies in the villages around. He ordered Pralambhasura to execute his order. But somehow Kamsa was in remorse and felt sorry for his sister. No sooner had he freed them from prison ,he changed his mind and put them back in the dark cells.
Here in Gokula however there was joy and pomp on the birth of Yashoda rani’s son. King Nanda gifted cows to brahmanas for these were their pleasing moments of life. The entire Gokul was now celebrating.

The little lord was named Krishna and his brother Balarama!
